Andrea Berta seems to be closing in on landing a role as the new Arsenal sporting director ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners have been operating without a permanent director after Edu Gaspar resigned, with Jason Ayto becoming the interim sporting director.
The current recruitment team oversaw a January transfer window that came under fire from fans, with Arsenal failing to strengthen in the forward areas.
As Andrea Berta looks set to become the Arsenal sporting director, attention will shift to which striker he can bring in to bolster the ranks.
One such star is already seemingly in his sights, with Arsenal looking at the possibility of landing a free agent this summer.

According to Sky Sports in Switzerland, Arsenal are expected to make an offer in the coming weeks for Lille’s Jonathan David.
The 25-year-old is a free agent this summer, allowing the Gunners to open talks and seal a pre-contract now if they so wish.
The report states that Arsenal want to formalise a deal for Berta first, allowing the sporting director to then make a concrete offer for David.
That said, the Gunners aren’t alone as London rivals West Ham are also said to be following a move closely along with other Premier League clubs.

How good is Arsenal transfer target Jonathan David?
Arsenal transfer target Jonathan David has been linked with an exit from Lille for some time, following many years of impressive performances.
The Canadian international uses his speed and quick thinking to pick gaps in defences to cause problems.
Meanwhile, his ability in the box has seen him score plenty of goals for his club as he looks to enter his peak years in fine form.
| Appearances | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|
| 220 | 105 | 26 |
Whether that will translate to the Premier League is another question, though with a free transfer up for grabs, it could be worth a shot.
