Jurgen Klopp may be forced to sell Benjamin Sesko to Arsenal after latest RB Leipzig nightmare

Arsenal could have a huge chance to land Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig this summer, if their struggles continue in the Bundesliga.

The Gunners are in desperate need of a new striker heading into the summer transfer window, with a lack of depth in the ranks joined by the need for a clinical forward.

In recent years, Arsenal have shown transfer interest in Benjamin Sesko, though plenty of other links to centre-forwards have continued.

The 21-year-old is high up on the North London club’s shortlist of options though, making him a candidate to be the new striker.

Despite Sesko signing a new contract last summer, there has been talk of a gentlemen’s agreement that allows for a sale in the coming transfer window.

Even with that said though, it would have to be on RB Leipzig’s terms, which may have to shift slightly after their latest Bundesliga nightmare.

RB Leipzig nightmare could force Benjamin Sesko to Arsenal transfer

Benjamin Sesko is a rare player in that he is one for the future as much as he is capable of playing at the very top as of right now.

The RB Leipzig star has shown he can perform well, despite still being just 21 years old, with plenty of his peak years still ahead of him.

As Arsenal circle a move for Sesko, one thing that could go in their favour when it comes to a deal is European football.

The Gunners will be keen on confirming a third consecutive season in the Champions League heading into the next campaign.

The European competition brings more than just a trophy chance, with the sheer financial gain accumulating and helping those who continue to qualify for it.

While that can help Arsenal, it could hurt RB Leipzig, who were knocked out of this season’s competition in the league phase and will receive less as a result.

On top of that, their latest defeat in the Bundesliga to Mainz has left them sixth, outside of the Champions League places.

With just six points separating fourth and tenth, it’s a tight top-end of the table that could see Leipzig slip further.

In that instance, it may force a big sale, with Jurgen Klopp the Head of Global Soccer at the club likely to look over a deal with the rest of the hierarchy.

If that puts pressure on a sale, it could help Arsenal land their man in a deal that may be dramatically more expensive if they qualify for the Champions League instead.

How has Benjamin Sesko performed this season?

Since deciding to stay at RB Leipzig, Sesko has managed to score some important goals for his side throughout the campaign.

In 23 appearances so far this season, the Slovenian international has managed to bag ten goals and four assists.

Plenty of those have come in streaks though, going on a five-match scoring run over December and January.

In the six games since his suspension for a red card in the DFB Pokal, Sesko has managed two goals and two assists in a run that has followed with just one win.

That decline in form has come at a worrying time for him and the club, who will need to turn it around before the end of the season.
