Arsenal could have the chance to land one transfer target for a cut-price deal this summer.

The 2025 summer transfer window is heating up, as Arsenal identify their targets to bolster Mikel Arteta’s attack.

Sporting director Andrea Berta is working on signing a striker, but a number nine isn’t the only thing that the Gunners need, as recruiting a winger is a must.

Last summer, Arsenal wanted to sign Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven, but a deal never transpired; however, an opportunity could now open up for the Gunners.

Romelu Lukaku is an admirer of Johan Bakayoko

Dutch outlet Eindhovens Dagblad have spoken about Bakayoko’s availability this summer, with the winger set to be available for as little as £17m.

PSV’s decreased asking price for the Belgian comes as a result of his contract expiring in 2026, giving Arsenal the chance to strike a bargain for a player who could bolster Arteta’s squad.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a winger, particularly one who can contribute to the goals, and Bakayoko could certainly be that figure, as Premier League icon Romelu Lukaku once explained.

Speaking to Alfredo Pedullo’s website in 2023, Lukaku backed the PSV forward to one day surpass him due to his ‘creative flair’ and ‘scoring record’.

“He’s understanding the importance of numbers in the game. His assist and goal tallies are increasing, bringing him into the spotlight. I’ve told him how incredible.”

“I find his play, and if he continues merging his creative flair with his scoring record, he’s on track to become a top-tier player. His potential knows no bounds. I sincerely think he has what it takes to surpass me in the long run.”

Lukaku was bold in his hopes for Bakayoko’s future, and for good reason, as since graduating to PSV’s first team, the wide player has contributed to 55 goals in 131 appearances.

Bakayoko would be an impressive signing for Arsenal

Last summer, Bakayoko had reservations about signing for Arsenal due to concerns about whether he’d secure game time.

While the situation remains somewhat the same, as Bukayo Saka’s status as Arteta’s first-choice winger isn’t likely to change anytime soon, there’s a greater incentive for Arsenal to push harder for his signature.

At only £17m, Bakayoko could add to Arsenal’s depth, and even further, could offer competition and cover for both Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal desperately need reinforcements in the wide areas, as seen last season when Saka was unavailable.

It would be an impressive capture for the Gunners to acquire Bakayoko, who has shown that he has what it takes to challenge at the top.
