Arsenal can now repeat Jorginho transfer success by signing £58m star

Arsenal have been presented with an enticing alternative to Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres in their pursuit of a striker this summer.

The Gunners are eager to find someone who can compete with Kai Havertz, who was overplayed last season before sustaining an injury.

Gyokeres and Sesko are Andrea Berta’s top two targets, although the Italian sporting director is keen to keep his options open.

Ollie Watkins is said to be the fail-safe candidate, although the North Londoners have now lined up one more striker who they’re exploring.

Arsenal are interested in Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson

Arsenal are set to sign Christian Norgaard, with Mikel Arteta reportedly urging the Gunners hierarchy to acquire the Dane over Sevilla’s 23-year-old midfielder Lucien Agoume.

The Spanish manager reportedly wanted a Premier League-proven option to replace Jorginho, and this is becoming a theme in his regime.

The likes of Havertz, Declan Rice, Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leandro Trossard, Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale have all arrived from other English top-flight clubs throughout Arteta’s tenure.

The Gunners boss could now take this approach again, with Duncan Castles revealing that Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson has been added to the striker shortlist.

“There’s one more name that I’ve become aware of this week that may come as a surprise, which is Nicolas Jackson,” Castles said on the Transfers Podcast.

“He’s had an interesting time in his two years at Chelsea. Never really nailed down a starting place as Chelsea’s starting striker. They’ve always been looking to add someone else or replace him completely.

“Chelsea say they’re not actively looking to sell Jackson in this window, but he’s not one of the untouchable figures within their squad so were a big enough offer to come in, they would consider selling him.

“Estimated transfer value is £65.7 million (£58 million), which is roughly double what Chelsea paid for him from Villarreal two years ago. Arsenal are interested and are weighing up the financial package for all their options.”

Nicolas Jackson would be a great signing for Arsenal

Arsenal have signed several players from Chelsea in recent years, with Kepa Arrizabalaga expected to become the latest addition from the West London club.

Several of these players who have made this switch have struggled, including the likes of Willian and Raheem Sterling, but Jorginho was one who enjoyed a fine spell in North London.

The Gunners may now have an opportunity to repeat this Jorginho transfer success by prying Jackson to the Emirates.

Developing a reputation for being a wasteful finisher, the Senegalese forward’s impressive performances last campaign have perhaps gone under the radar.

Taking over three shots and accumulating 0.5 expected goals per 90 minutes, Jackson is a threat with his exceptional movement and pace in behind.

With Martin Odegaard feeding him, he has the potential to produce even better output in an Arsenal team that will create chances for him, particularly as his finishing matures.

At around about £58 million, he’s a safer bet than either Gyokeres or Sesko.
