Arsenal now have a golden opportunity to re-sign one of their former players for free.

The Gunners have only completed two deals in this window – David Raya’s loan was made permanent and Riccardo Calafiori was brought in from Bologna.

Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar are still active on the transfer market, and they are looking for opportunities to strengthen the squad.

Now, some potentially good news has arrived for Arsenal.

Arsenal can re-sign Wojciech Szczesny on a free transfer

Wojciech Szczesny left Arsenal on a permanent deal in the summer of 2017.

The £199k-a-week (SalarySport) Pole had spent over a decade at the Emirates already by that point, and it was a real shame to see him leave the club.

Szczesny admitted that he cried when he left Arsenal – it was a really emotional moment for him.

The goalkeeper was made surplus to requirements at Juventus at the end of the 2023/24 season. Even Arsenal were linked with a move to re-sign Szczesny this summer.

No move materialised until this point, and it looks like Juventus grew tired of waiting.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on X on Tuesday that Juventus have terminated Szczesny’s contract with ‘immediate effect’.

All the documents are now being checked and Szczesny is expected to be available on a free transfer imminently.

Romano tweeted: “Juventus and Wojciech Szczesny have now reached a mutual agreement to terminate the contract with immediate effect.

“Paperwork being prepared and checked; if all good, Szczesny leaves Juventus getting an important pay-out fee. Szczesny will be available as free agent.”

Should Arsenal re-sign Szczesny?

Arsenal have a tricky situation in goal at the moment.

David Raya is the undisputed number one, and Aaron Ramsdale has a foot out of the door after getting zero minutes in pre-season.

There is a big chance the Englishman will leave the club this summer – Ajax want to sign Ramsdale from Arsenal in the coming days.

If the former Sheffield United man does end up leaving the club, Arsenal will have to sign a replacement, especially as Karl Hein has been loaned out to Real Valladolid.

An experienced international goalkeeper like Szczesny being available on a free transfer would be a great option for Arsenal for a couple of years – until Hein becomes ready to come into the picture.

We think Arsenal should bring Szczesny back this summer if Ramsdale is moved on.
