Arsenal considering bid for ‘underrated’ goalkeeper who once lost his place to David Ospina

After selling Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton and bringing in Neto on loan from Bournemouth, Arsenal settled for solving just half of their long-term issue.

Ramsdale needed to go, a goalkeeper was understandably growing tired of sitting on the bench for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Eventually it became clear that Mikel Arteta had signed David Raya as his new number one, a decision that has been justified with time.

In fact, Raya is also now starring for Spain as a result of his form in north London, and might even be poised to steal the number one spot for his country.

But with Neto just on loan for the season, it seems as if Arsenal will look to sign a younger goalkeeper to compete with Raya in the future.

Arsenal were priced out of a move for Joan Garcia this summer, and it now seems as if their attention is turning elsewhere.

Arsenal targeting Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret on a free transfer

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal are now considering a move for Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret as potential long-term support for Raya in north London.

Meret is poised to be out of contract with Napoli at the end of the season, meaning Arsenal could begin talks with the 27-year-old in January.

The Italian is currently Napoli number one under Antonio Conte, which would perhaps make the move a puzzling one from the player’s perspective.

Of course, it is important to note that there is the option of another year with Napoli in Meret’s current contract agreement.

In terms of quality, there’s little doubt that someone of Meret’s class would be an excellent calibre of player to have at Arsenal.

However, if they did sign Meret then Arsenal may soon find themselves in a similar situation to the Ramsdale/Raya saga, once again having two keepers who are good enough to start.

That being said, Arsenal fans might find it interesting to know that after leaving Arsenal in 2019, David Ospina often displaced Meret in the first eleven, who arrived in Naples in the same summer.

Edu might have missed his chance to sign Joan Garcia

Although Meret has often been hailed as an underrated talent, Arsenal might still be better off signing Garcia.

The Spaniard is younger in age and slightly earlier in his career, someone who could be better suited to life as a backup.

Although, Edu might have missed his chance to sign Garcia, a decision he may live to regret.

Garcia is now flying in La Liga with Espanyol after their promotion last season, a player with a growing reputation.

And given that Raya is so obviously Arteta’s number one at Arsenal, it might be a difficult situation for the Gunners to solve.
