The future of Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey looks uncertain, and the club could look to sign a replacement in the January transfer window.
The 30-year-old is currently injured, and has missed most of the campaign so far. The arrival of Declan Rice in the summer meant there is more competition in midfield, and recent reports indicated that Partey is keen on a January exit.
However, despite his injury issues, when he is fit, Partey is a crucial member of the squad, and if he does leave, he would need to be replaced.
Arsenal could target a midfielder
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Arsenal could now attempt to sign a midfielder, amidst the uncertainty surrounding Partey.
“Yeah, it’s incredibly frustrating. Because Arsenal can’t really afford to have passengers this season,” he stated.
“While it’s not Partey’s fault that he’s got another injury, it certainly doesn’t help a team that want to prove their title credentials.
“For the past year, we’ve been wondering about Partey’s future and it seems like it’s been in a constant state of limbo. And I think that we are fast approaching the time when Arsenal thinking about bringing in another midfielder, it’s something they’ve been contemplating.”
Who could Arsenal sign in midfield?
Although Arsenal have coped well whilst the £200k-a-week star has been injured this season, if he does leave, then another body would have to come in.
They have been linked with Brazilian midfielder Andre, and he could be attainable in the January window.
There have also been links with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, but a January deal for the Spain International could be difficult to pull off.
If Partey can regain his fitness, and is open to staying, then Arsenal would be better off waiting until the summer before making a decision over his future, and they would find it easier to sign a long-term replacement for the Ghana International.
