Arsenal may look to sign a central midfielder in the January transfer window, and they may be offered the chance to sign an all-time great in the position.

Real Madrid’s acquisition of Jude Bellingham this summer meant that their midfield roster is set for the foreseeable future, with four of the world’s best young talents now playing together.

This has meant there is little room for veteran Toni Kroos to have a regular role. The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and as it stands there are no talks planned over an extension.

It has now been reported that Kroos could look to move in the January window, and that Arsenal could be a possible destination.

Toni Kroos could be offered to Arsenal

A report from The Sun has now claimed that the £408k-a-week midfielder could push for a January exit from the Santiago Bernabeu if he is not offered a new deal and if his playing time remains as low as it currently is.

It is claimed that Kroos’ representatives may sound out Arsenal, as well as Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and both Manchester sides over whether they would be interested in signing the German.

Kroos has won every possible major trophy with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, as well as the World Cup with Germany, and would bring a wealth of leadership and experience to this young Arsenal side.

However, his high wages and his age make him an unlikely target for Mikel Arteta. For the most part, the club have targeted younger signings during his tenure, although Leandro Trossard and Jorginho did arrive during the January window last season.

Thomas Partey has been linked with a move away, and Kroos may be seen as someone who can replace his ability on the ball. Zinedine Zidane has previously described Kroos as “spectacular,” and he could be the missing link next to Martin Odegaard in the midfield three.

However, Kroos’ age will be a concern, and perhaps only a short-term deal should be considered. Although he has started a few times for Real Madrid this season, including in Saturday’s victory in El Clasico, at times his decline in physicality has shown, and it is unclear whether he still has the legs to thrive in Arteta’s system, which requires a lot of mobility and running from the midfield.
