Arsenal have been reportedly interested in Ivan Toney for what feels like forever, with the Brentford striker expected to leave this summer.

The England international has been rumoured with a move to a big Premier League team for some time, Arsenal one of the clubs reportedly interested in signing Toney despite claims that Brentford could demand as much as £100m for the striker.

With the likes of Alan Shearer lauding Toney this season as ‘incredible’, though, there’s a good reason why Arsenal have been linked with the attacker, especially with fellow target Alexander Isak recently admitting that he wants to stay at Newcastle United.

And Arsenal could now sign Toney for well below the previously reported £100m asking price.

Arsenal target Toney could now be sold for just £40m

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Toney’s price tag could now be as low as £40m, with Arsenal still interested in the 28-year-old despite new interest from Chelsea and West Ham.

With Arsenal in the market for a new centre-forward, Toney’s revised asking price could be a tempting prospect for the Gunners, who are clearly interested in signing the Brentford star given how intense links have been in recent weeks.

Indeed, Toney could offer something new to Arsenal that no attacker in Mikel Arteta’s side currently has, with the Brentford star clearly good enough to lead the line for most Premier League teams.

And with the Bees potentially reducing Toney’s asking price to just £40m, Arsenal would be silly to not at least move for the England international, who could be set on a move to north London and to play in the UEFA Champions League.

Arteta could afford to take a risk on Toney this summer

With Toney’s price tag potentially going down to below half what was originally reported, there’s a real chance that Arteta could opt to take a chance on Toney this summer in the transfer market.

As we know, Toney is one of the most lethal attackers in the Premier League and someone who could be of real value for Arsenal and Arteta in certain stages of the season when Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are off the pace.

Moreover, with Arsenal expected to sell a number of players this summer, the funds are there for the north London side to sign Toney, who could be exactly what the Gunners are missing in their attack.
