Arsenal may still attempt to sign Axel Disasi this summer.
According to The Sun, Arsenal may yet launch a bid to sign Axel Disasi in this transfer window, despite having already brought Jurrien Timber to the club. However, the Gunners will face competition for Disasi’s signature, as Chelsea are also interested in the defender, and Manchester United consider him a top target.
Arsenal’s need for the player is certainly less pressing than their rivals’. Ben White excelled at right-back last season, and Timber has impressed in the role for the Gunners in pre-season. Both Timber and White have played much of their previous football as centre-backs. A move for Disasi, who can also operate centrally or on the right, would suggest that Arteta has very specific roles in mind for each of his defenders. Perhaps one of White or Timber could be earmarked for a deep-lying midfield role, where, again, they have both played before in their careers.
Arsenal have already spent big this summer, but Mikel Arteta has said that the club will still look to do more deals where they can. A move for Disasi would have interesting tactical implications for the Spaniard’s squad.
Why Pele Is Overrated.

Who is Axel Disasi?
According to the aforementioned report in The Sun, Monaco are thought to want around £34 million for Disasi. This is unsurprising given that the 6’3” 25-year-old was in fine form last season. He played 49 times for Monaco across all competitions, and cemented his reputation as one of the finest defenders in Ligue 1.
The 4-cap France international has all the attributes needed to thrive in the Premier League. Disasi’s versatility also makes him an ideal fit for Arteta’s squad. However, Arsenal do look very well stocked at the back. Unless there is an unexpected departure in the pipeline, it seems that these funds, if they exist, could be better used in other parts of the pitch.
