There was an unexpected transfer scare at Arsenal today.
Arsenal have just had to fend off an approach from a Saudi Arabian club for one of Mikel Arteta’s key players.
Whilst the summer transfer window is now closed in England, the market is still open in some other parts of the world, including Saudi Arabia. This means that Premier League clubs are vulnerable to having players prised away whilst they are helpless to source any replacements.
The Gunners might have fallen victim to this when Al-Ittihad made an unexpected approach for Leandro Trossard.
The Saudi Arabian outfit launched a £30 million bid for Trossard. The Belgian winger might have been tempted by the wages and game time on offer with Al-Ittihad.
However, journalist David Ornstein soon revealed that Arsenal rejected this offer swiftly, shutting down the potential transfer saga before it even had chance to gather any real pace.

Arsenal fans react to David Ornstein transfer update on Leandro Trossard
After Ornstein broke the news that Trossard would be staying in North London, plenty of Arsenal fans took to X to share their thoughts on the club’s decision to keep the former Brighton man around.
One said: “I simply cannot look past the way Trossard has delivered over the last two seasons. Unless it’s crazy money/player on the table I don’t see why we should move him on immediately.”
Another stated: “More than the money he is needed in the squad if we have to win the title. Can’t reduce another member from an already thin squad.”
One claimed: “Very embarrassing bid. Trossard is not for sale, he is our little magician.”
Another added: “Our squad is already one of the thinnest in the league!!!! We made terrible mistakes in this transfer window and selling smith rowe and loaning viera is one!!!”
One fan said: “As expected. Thank you, David Ornstein, for providing clarity.”
Another supporter chipped in with: “Yes we have no backup or replacement We’re not selling our clinical player.”
Trossard’s role for Arsenal
Trossard and Arteta have clashed in the past, as the attacker has been keen for more game time at Arsenal. In general, since his arrival in North London, he has been behind Gabriel Martinelli in the pecking order.
However, after a period fo sustained good form he was given the opportunity to start against Brighton last time out, and he will now be determined to preserve and protect his place in the side.
His starting berth may come under threat from Transfer Deadline Day arrival Raheem Sterling though. If Trossard finds himself stuck in an impact substitute role before long then he may find himself keen to force an exit in the January transfer window.
