Arsenal Insider asked Gooners far and wide whether they would prefer to keep or sell Martin Odegaard this summer. Citing profit and form, many of the hundreds who commented argued in favour of selling.
Odegaard’s future has been spoken about a lot this season, mostly due to the rising competition in the squad and the captain’s inconsistent form.
A player of the Norwegian’s quality is rare; however, it must be acknowledged that his form since his stellar 2022/23 campaign has varied.
With Eberechi Eze now on board, fans have been assessing what the future could hold for Odegaard, and the feedback was fascinating.
Agree or disagree: Martin Odegaard should NOT be deemed untouchable in next summer’s transfer window…
Arsenal fans say they would sell Martin Odegaard in the summer due to recent form and profit
On Arsenal Insider’s Facebook page, we simply asked fans whether they would keep or sell Odegaard when the 2026 summer transfer window comes around.
With over 500 comments, fans made their opinions known, and when it came to those who voted in favour of selling the playmaker, a theme presented itself.
The two main reasons that some Gooners want Odegaard to be sold are for profit and his waning form.
A selection of those who referred to the financial benefits of selling said:
- “Sell while you can get top dollar.”
- “Sell – about time Arsenal make profit on players.”
- “This is the right time to sell.”
- “If a good offer came in, sell.”

Profit was one side of the argument, but for the majority of the comments favouring a sale that we assessed, the primary concern was form.
To set the scene, one fan was eager to mention the work that Odegaard has done at Arsenal since first arriving in 2021, but shared their belief that the Norwegian is not at the level required in Arteta’s squad.
“He’s our man, we should respect what he’s done for our team, but he’s not good enough at this level.”
Several fans asked fellow supporters why they would want to keep Odegaard.
- “If a player is declining in terms of performance, why keep him?”
- “Why would anyone want to keep him! He isn’t the same player as 2 – 3 years ago, and we have outgrown him.”
What grade are you giving Martin Odegaard and why?
Others were eager to highlight that the former Real Madrid man hasn’t improved in some time, which swayed their decision to say sell.
- “40 mill, sell all day… has not improved in 3 years.”
- “100% sell. Those who want to keep are just emotional. He had done a fantastic job, but now it’s time to let him go.”
- “I think Arsenal need something more. The team has evolved past him, and he is looking more like a fringe player these days.”
The debate remains wide open, as other fans made their thoughts clear that Arsenal should keep the skipper.
With a contract that runs until 2028, there are decisions that soon need to be made, with all eyes on how Odegaard’s form varies going forward.
