Jorginho’s Arsenal future has been up in the air for a while now.

The Italian has entered the final six months of his contract along with Thomas Partey, and there is a chance both midfielders will leave the club.

Arsenal are set to sign Martin Zubimendi, and the Spain international will be a great replacement for one of Partey or Jorginho.

If both of them leave, Arsenal will need another midfielder, and a long-time Mikel Arteta target has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium again.

Arsenal eye Douglas Luiz move if Jorginho leaves

Douglas Luiz has been on Arsenal’s radar for a few years now.

The Brazilian, who was on Manchester City’s books for a couple of years before moving to Aston Villa, made a terrific name for himself in the Premier League at Villa Park.

Arsenal tried to sign Luiz on a couple of occasions when he was in Birmingham, but no move materialised for the Gunners.

Luiz joined Juventus last summer in a £42 million deal, but the midfielder has managed just 550 minutes of football all season under Thiago Motta.

He has been linked with a move back to the Premier League, and RTI claim that Arsenal want him if Jorginho decides to leave the club.

The 33-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Flamengo. The expectation is that he will move in the summer on a free transfer, but if the Brazilian club want him now, Arsenal have slapped a £8.45 million price tag.

Arteta’s side have contacted Luiz’s representatives to understand what it would take to sign him, but a move is only on the cards of Jorginho leaves.

Arsenal already have a player to replace Jorginho

Losing both Partey and Jorginho in the same window would be a blow for Arsenal, but Zubimendi’s expected arrival softens that significantly.

The Gunners would ideally like another midfielder on top of the Spaniard, which is why rumours have emerged regarding Luiz.

But, we think Arteta should just use Myles Lewis-Skelly in midfield.

The teenager has been fantastic at left-back in Riccardo Calafiori’s absence, but his natural position is in the middle of the park.

We think he would do a great job there, and the fact that he would cost nothing makes him a much better option than Luiz, who will cost millions.
