Arsenal have put ‘phenomenal’ £100m finisher ‘on their list’ as Benjamin Sesko alternative

Arsenal are pursuing a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, but they have a backup plan if a move cannot materialise.

Arsenal are not the only club interested in Sesko, with Manchester United and Chelsea in hot pursuit, and whilst Mikel Arteta will be confident that his side is the most attractive destination for him, a repeat of the Mykhaylo Mudryk situation from last year cannot be ruled out just yet.

Edu Gaspar and the Arsenal recruitment team will have several other targets in mind they can turn to, and one such option is Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.

The Republic of Ireland International is seen as one of the best young attacking prospects in Europe, and would certainly bring quality to the Arsenal squad.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that the 19-year-old is one of several Sesko alternatives Arsenal are keeping an eye on.

“In addition (to Sesko), they still have Viktor Gyokeres, Evan Ferguson and Joshua Zirkzee on their list,” he revealed.

“The biggest strengths in recruitment is being able to pick four or five (targets), all of which you think can work and succeed and thrive.”

Ferguson struggled with injuries this season, missing the last two months of the campaign with an ankle problem, and scored six times in 27 Premier League games across all competitions.

On the face of it, six goals in 27 Premier League games is not the kind of goal record which would make Ferguson stand out as a top prospect. However, given that he is still just 19, having that level of experience under his belt could make him ready to explode in front of goal.

His Brighton teammate, veteran James Milner, recently praised the young attacker as being deadly in front of goal.

“His finishing is phenomenal you know, just so good. If a chance is falling, you want it to go to him,” Milner stated in January.

In 65 senior appearances for Brighton, Ferguson has scored 16 goals and provided five assists, and he is a young forward with the potential to develop into a deadly striker.

However, if Ferguson is eyed as an alternative to Sesko, he is certainly not a cheaper one, as Ferguson’s previously reported price tag of around £100m may be high enough to put Arsenal off a move.
