Arsenal have scouted ‘unstoppable’ English forward since 2020 but Mikel Arteta faces one problem

Although Arsenal made some strong strides with their recruitment in the summer, the job isn’t quite done for Edu and Mikel Arteta just yet.

Arsenal signed Raheem Sterling on loan on deadline day, a smart deal but not one the club planned at the beginning of the summer.

Were Sterling to excel in north London, perhaps the Gunners would be interested in a permanent deal, but that remains to be seen.

Sterling is set to start for Arsenal against Bolton – his first proper opportunity to impress since arriving from Chelsea.

But regardless of how Sterling fares in N5, Arsenal will still be planning alternative moves, perhaps ones for players with better long-term value.

Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens would ignore any attempts from Arsenal

According to GMS, Arsenal have been scouting 20-year-old winger Jamie Gittens ever since he moved to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in 2020.

The England under-21 international appears to be embarking on his breakthrough campaign in the Bundesliga right now, following the famous path of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.

Gittens has scored four goals in six games this term, with two of those strikes coming in just 11 minutes of Champions League football against Club Brugge.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal have been considering making a move, but the report makes it clear that Gittens wouldn’t be interested in a north London switch right now.

Although working under Mikel Arteta might be tempting for the ‘unstoppable’ youngster – as described by his teammate Emre Can – he wants to stay at Dortmund where there’s a history of young players receiving excellent chances.

Ian Wright has been impressed with Jamie Gitten’s bravery

Speaking back in 2022, when the youngster went by the surname Bynoe-Gittens, Ian Wright actually spoke about the winger on his podcast.

Wright really enjoyed what Gittens said after leaving Man City, impressed by the bravery of the young Englishman.

Wright said: “When you see this guy, his story. He was at Reading at seven, Man City at 14. He’s another one of those players that has been at Man City and said ‘I’m gonna leave here’.

“He’s always played above his age group. He went to Dortmund in 2020.

“You know what I love, he mentioned Jadon Sancho was at City and he was doing bits, scoring in the 18s, scoring every game. And he said ‘you’ve got to take stuff from other people to make the best version of yourself. Now, you’ve got to score and assist to be the best’.

“At 18, if you’ve got that mindset now, fingers crossed he steers clear of injuries and that. But he’s on a good trajectory. He sounds like his mind’s right.

Of course, that mindset now appears to be serving Gittens well two years later, a player who may soon be knocking on the door for a senior England call up.
