Arsenal will have to work hard to beat rivals Liverpool and Manchester City in the coming transfer windows when it comes to their targets.

The Gunners have been rumoured with interest in several players as they look to improve the squad for Mikel Arteta.

One of those linked is Martin Zubimendi, who has been linked with Arsenal along with Liverpool and Man City as an option for the future.

The midfielder has impressed in the base of midfield for Real Sociedad and Spain, dictating play with his ball-playing style that could suit the Gunners.

Arsenal will have to work hard to land the Spaniard, who rejected approaches over the summer, but they may just have a secret weapon to get a move over the line.

Mikel Merino could help with Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal transfer

Martin Zubimendi’s deal could be very complicated, given the teams involved in a move and the star’s love for Real Sociedad.

With that in mind, Arsenal could have an upper hand in the discussions thanks to a former teammate of the midfielder’s in Mikel Merino.

The Spanish international featured alongside Zubimendi at the club before he made the switch to the Emirates Stadium.

With that rapport already there, a recommendation to join the Premier League title-chasers could swing the move one way or another.

Add to that the club-to-club relationships, where Arsenal have already dealt with Real Sociedad, and it may push the deal even closer to completion.

It remains to be seen whether that will have an impact, but it certainly could put the Gunners in the driving seat over their rivals.

What is Martin Zubimendi’s playing style?

Zubimendi is often used as a deep-lying option in the midfield, looking to receive the ball from the backline to kickstart the build-up play.

While he is looking for plenty of possession, he is also more than capable when it comes to winning duels.

His profile adds a tactical flexibility to the side that Arteta is looking to put out on a regular basis, adding some control.

With uncertainty over the future of Jorginho and Thomas Partey, he also adds some security in that area for the future.

At 25 years old he brings down the average age of the midfield ranks while signalling a clear intent to win games and now.
