Arsenal are amongst a group of Premier League clubs considering a move for Gabri Veiga this summer.

According to French publication Le10Sport, Arsenal are in the hunt to sign Gabri Veiga. The report also confirms that PSG are not interested in the player, but Tottenham and Chelsea are keen to challenge the Gunners for the midfielder’s services.

Arsenal have already been busy this summer, but it seems Mikel Arteta is still keen to improve the squad that fell so agonisingly short of securing a shock Premier League title triumph last season.

Veiga would be an interesting addition to the team, though it would possibly be a surprise if Arsenal were willing to meet the 21-year-old’s £34 million release clause after already committing £105 million to bring in Declan Rice to play a key role on the middle of the park.

Who is Gabri Veiga?

There is an argument, however, that just bringing in Rice to the midfield unit isn’t enough, given the departure of Granit Xhaka and the fact that upcoming Champions League football means that having quality squad depth will be more important than ever. Whether Rice is used in a deeper or more attacking role in Arsenal’s midfield, or if new arrival Kai Havertz inherits Xhaka’s ‘left eight’ role, Veiga has the quality to battle with them both for minutes.

Despite his youth, Veiga established himself as a key figure for Celta Vigo last season. He also enjoyed a fine season in front of goal, striking 9 times in La Liga. The Spain under-21 international is an exciting player with huge potential for improvement.

Bringing in Veiga this summer to fill out the squad and compete for game time with the likes of Rice, Havertz, Thomas Partey, and club captain Martin Odegaard would be yet more evidence that the Gunners seriously mean business this season.
