Arsenal could soon take a step closer to finally signing a top striker to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad.

The Gunners had a successful summer in the transfer window, however, failed to sign the striker that so many fans were desperate to see.

Arsenal were linked to Viktor Gyokeres, who after signing for Sporting CP in 2023 from Coventry City, has taken Europe by storm.

Arteta’s side have a mass of attacking talent at present but are missing a reliable number nine, a void that a player of Gyokeres’ calibre could certainly fill.

Arsenal informed of Viktor Gyokeres transfer stance

There are very few strikers performing at a higher level than the Sweden international this season, as the Sporting talisman has already netted 14 goals.

It’s clear why the Gunners are listed as admirers of the former Championship star, with the club now sent a message regarding their chances of one day signing the 26-year-old.

On X, journalist Florian Plettenberg outlined Sporting’s stance on Gyokeres’ future, with there an understanding that the forward ‘can leave’ next summer.

“Been told despite a release clause set at €100m, there is an agreement that Viktor Gyokeres can leave Sporting CP next summer for €60-70m.”

Plettenberg continued by saying that a move in the summer is ‘very likely’, naming Arsenal as one of the ‘specifically interested’ sides.

“A move in the winter is currently not planned. A transfer in the summer is very likely. In England, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea are specifically interested in the 26-year-old.

“All of the teams are informed about the transfer agreement.”

It’s encouraging news for the Gunners, with there a real chance of striking a deal for Gyokeres for a fee lower than anticipated.

Manchester United could ruin Arsenal’s Gyokeres dreams

Despite not being named as one of the Premier League clubs who admire Gyokeres, Manchester United could throw a spanner into the works for one prominent reason.

After sacking Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils are poised to recruit Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, who could be tempted to lure his striker to Old Trafford.

Speaking to A Bola, Gyokeres’ agent previously admitted that if Amorim were to leave Lisbon, it would be ‘more difficult’ for his client to stay, via A Bola

“Yes, it will be more difficult for Viktor to stay if Ruben Amorim leaves Sporting because Viktor came precisely because of Ruben.”

If Amorim makes the move to Manchester, there’s a chance that Gyokeres could follow, which could, in turn, hand Edu Gaspar a blow in his pursuit of the goal machine.
