Arsenal interested in £3m midfielder who’s already dominated Liverpool this season

In the summer Arsenal are faced with the prospect of both Thomas Partey and Jorginho leaving the club as things stand.

Both are out of contract at the end of the season and Arsenal are yet to agree to an extension for either, a situation Mikel Arteta must be assessing week by week.

Given Mikel Merino’s late addition last summer, Arsenal’s midfield does have a slightly different complexion right now – Declan Rice has dropped back to a number six role.

However, it still seems as if Arsenal need to add some fresh blood in the pivot, even if one of Partey or Jorginho stays.

Arsenal are interested in Martin Zubimendi, however, there could now be a cheaper and possibly more attainable option emerging in La Liga.

Arsenal interested in Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume

According to Arsenal Insider sources, the club holds a lot of admiration for Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume who’s thriving in Spain right now.

At 22-years-old, Agoume has already made a couple of high-profile transfers in his career thus far.

The France under-21 international left FC Sochaux to join Inter Milan in 2019, where he was under contract for five years.

Agoume spent the majority of that time out on loan, with spells at all of Spezia, Stade Brestois and Troyes.

Then, Agoume joined Sevilla on loan at the beginning of 2024, a move that was made permanent for around £3m in the summer.

Agoume has now made 17 appearances for Sevilla this season, ones that have caught Arsenal’s attention.

And in particular, the Cameroon born midfielder was exceptional against Liverpool in pre-season at Anfield, even if his side lost 4-1.

Lucien Agoume would need to learn under Mikel Arteta

Interestingly, Agoume hasn’t had it entirely his way this season though – proving he’s still got room to improve should he ever join a side like Arsenal.

Sevilla suffered a frustrating defeat away to Leganes in November, a game in which Agoume conceded a penalty and was sent off.

The midfielder’s manager, Garcia Pimienta, refused to blame Agoume individually, suggesting that the relatively inexperienced midfielder will learn from his mistake.

Speaking via Sport, Pimienta said: “When a player makes a mistake like that, the first to be annoyed is him, as happened to a teammate last week.

“That mistake affects the game because it is a goal and you are left with one less player. It has happened to us in other situations. We should encourage him and move on.”

Clearly, such sticky moments haven’t put off Arsenal, who must recognise Agoume’s intelligence with the ball in the middle, someone who’s excellent at progressing play.
