Football London’s Arsenal correspondent Chris Wheatley has revealed on Instagram that Real Madrid star Martin Odegaard wants to return to the Emirates this summer.

The Norwegian, labelled as ‘brilliant‘ by Calum Chambers, spent a successful spell on loan at Arsenal in the second half of last season. It is no secret that Mikel Arteta would love him back, but it initially seemed like he was going to stay at the Bernabeu.

However, multiple reports have been coming out over the last two days stating the opposite. Real Madrid are now reportedly open to selling Odegaard, and Wheatley has revealed that the 22-year-old is keen to return as well.

How much will Real Madrid star Odegaard cost Arsenal?

Spanish outlet Defensa Central claimed last month that Real Madrid are looking for a fee in the region of £51.5 million. That seemed slightly expensive then, but if Wheatley is to be believed, Arsenal can now sign him for a much lower fee.

The Insider’s View:

If Wheatley’s comments are true, Arsenal have no reason not to move in for Odegaard this summer. The Gunners have been linked with plenty of attacking midfielders over the last few weeks, but only James Maddison is arguably better than the Norwegian.

However, the Leicester City star is expected to cost in excess of £70 million this summer. (Sky Sports) That will likely be beyond our reach, especially after we’ve agreed to fork out £50 million to sign Ben White from Brighton.

If Odegaard really is available for half of what Maddison is, it is a no-brainer for Arsenal. We should be all over that deal and the fact that the Norwegian is keen to join us is a big plus as well.
