Arsenal may see £25m star leave in January as ‘emotional’ transfer now being considered

Arsenal may see a number of players leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window.

There are players on the outskirts of Mikel Arteta’s squad who may be keen to depart Arsenal this winter.

For instance, Arsenal are expecting Jakub Kiwior to leave, as the Gunners recognise that they can’t stand in the defender’s way when he could be enjoying regular football elsewhere.

On top of that, Arteta must consider selling Takehiro Tomiyasu, if a buyer for the Japanese defender can be found. The 25-year-old’s fitness cannot be relied upon and he has slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, it is clear that Kieran Tierney has no future in North London. The Scottish left-back would likely have left in the summer had he not sustained yet another injury at Euro 2024.

The Gunners signed Tierney for £25 million from Celtic in the summer of 2019, just prior to Arteta’s appointment.

Recurrent injuries have plagued Tierney throughout his time with Arsenal, but for some time the 27-year-old was a key player for the club.

However, as Arteta adapted his tactics following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Tierney slipped down the pecking order. He spent last season away from the club, on loan with Real Sociedad, and is now entirely out of the first team picture.

Arsenal could sanction Kieran Tierney return to Celtic

Tierney is aware he needs to leave Arsenal, and if his fitness allows him to make a January exit then he will surely be keen to make that happen.

According to talkSPORT, an “emotional” return to Celtic could be on the cards.

As per the aforementioned report: “Scotland international Tierney has been told he can leave north London in January and Celtic are understood to be monitoring his situation.”

Brendan Rodgers is in charge of the Scottish giants again, as he was when Tierney last represented his boyhood club.

Tierney and Rodgers were spotted together recently, and both would likely be keen on a reunion at Celtic.

Arsenal have to let Tierney go

Tierney has no chance of getting his career back on track at Arsenal, and Arteta will not want to stand in the 47-cap Scotland international’s way.

The Gunners could also do with getting the player’s wages off the books and creating room in the squad for new faces.

Tierney always gave his best for the Gunners, and his attitude will certainly be fondly remembered by Arsenal fans, who will hope to see him shining again should he return to Celtic.
