Arsenal now emerge as a potential destination for player once compared to Messi

There was plenty of surprise when Brighton signed Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati on loan in the summer, and Arsenal will be watching his progress with plenty of interest.

Fati was Barcelona’s number 10, and when he broke through he was one of the best young talents in world football. He drew comparisons with Lionel Messi before taking his shirt number after the Argentine legend departed the club.

However, despite still only being 21, Fati’s career has not panned out as hoped, as he struggled to find his best form after a long-term injury, and went on loan to Roberto De Zerbi’s side this summer.

Arsenal eye up Ansu Fati

A report from Football Transfers has now revealed that Arsenal, as well as Liverpool and Manchester United, are interested in Fati should he be available this summer on a permanent deal.

The Spain international has started well at Brighton, with four goals and an assist in 12 appearances across all competitions, and is beginning to regain his speed and confidence in front of goal.

Fati can play on both wings as well as up front, and Mikel Arteta seems keen on adding a speedy attacker to his squad, with the likes of Pedro Neto previously linked.

With Pedro Neto picking up an injury, it now remains unclear whether Arsenal will target a winger in the January window or wait until the summer.

If they are prepared to wait, and Fati does become available, then he could be an excellent signing for Arsenal.

He would be able to rotate with both Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, whilst also being able to play through the middle alongside both.

He would add incredible speed to the attack, and if he is able to find his best form at Brighton, then he could become a world-class talent for years to come.

When Fati first broke through at the Camp Nou, he was regarded as someone who would be a key player for Barcelona for the next decade. Similarly to Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, he is a talent who has had a difficult year, but one who could thrive with a fresh start under Mikel Arteta.

It is unclear whether Fati would be open to a permanent exit from Barcelona, or if he would want to stay and fight for his place under Xavi, but he is certainly a player that Arsenal will keep a close eye on this season.
