Arsenal have been linked with a number of attackers, but a name which may be considered unrealistic could now come into contention.
Kylian Mbappe is arguably the best player in the world right now, and fresh from his last-minute Champions League equaliser against Newcastle last night, new links have emerged with Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger tried to sign the attacker when he was a teenager at Monaco, and his rapid explosion as a 17-year-old saw him rise to stardom.
All indications in recent years have pointed to an eventual move to Real Madrid, but with Mbappe’s contract expiring at the end of the season, Arsenal have now started to check whether a shock move would be possible.
Arsenal explore conditions of Kylian Mbappe deal
A report from the Daily Record has now claimed that Arsenal and Liverpool are both exploring whether a move for the 24-year-old would be possible in the summer.
“Record Sport understands that both Arsenal and Liverpool have begun exploring the financial and sporting parameters involved in persuading Mbappe to move to the Premier League under freedom of contract this summer,” the report claimed.
Mbappe is on an astonishing base wage of £1.2m per week, so even if he was to arrive on a free transfer, Arsenal would have to break the bank, and their wage structure, to finance a deal for him.
Could Arsenal sign Mbappe?

A move for the World Cup winner currently looks highly unrealistic right now.
Mbappe’s wages, and the potential signing bonus he would attract, simply makes a move to the Emirates financially unviable.
Arsenal structured the deal to bring in David Raya on an initial loan to help with financial fair play, and have recently given pay rises to a number of key players such as Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba.
The wage structure at the club would have to be heavily altered, and a number of players sold for huge fees to make a move even remotely possible, and if Real Madrid do make another move for him, he would likely prefer a move to the club he has supported from a young age.
If Arsenal did somehow sign Mbappe ahead of Europe’s biggest clubs, then it would eclipse the signings of Dennis Bergkamp, Mesut Ozil and Declan Rice as the most high-profile transfer in the club’s history.
Arsenal have been linked with a big-name striker in Victor Osimhen, but a deal for Mbappe would turn Mikel Arteta’s side into potential Premier League favourites and Champions League contenders.
