Arsenal haven’t been afraid of dipping into the January transfer window in recent years.

The Gunners have made some brilliant winter additions in recent times such as Leandro Trossard, Jorginho and even Martin Odegaard.

Arsenal bid for Ollie Watkins last January, but, ultimately, opted not to make a signing.

Should Antoine Semenyo be Arsenal’s top transfer target in 2026? If not, who should be?

Heading into this winter window, Antoine Semenyo has been the key name on most fans’ lips and speaking to Hayters TV, Ben Jacobs has shared an update on Arsenal’s interest in Semenyo.

According to the journalist, Arsenal would prefer to wait until the summer to do any deal for Semenyo, and, interestingly, Manchester United have the same stance.

Arsenal want to wait for Antoine Semenyo

According to Jacobs, Arsenal and Manchester United have the same stance when it comes to signing Antoine Semenyo.

The journalist claims that both clubs would rather wait until the summer to get a deal done. However, he does note that either team may be powerless to stop a rival swooping in January.

Semenyo has a £65m release clause that becomes active in January, and other clubs are keen to bring him in much earlier than Arsenal or United would be.

“And although Manchester United are not front runners, they’ve not totally ended their interest in Semenyo, but I think Manchester United and Arsenal would probably prefer to do that deal in the summer and they may not have a choice if somebody else triggers the clause,” Jacobs said.

Arsenal may hold Antoine Semenyo advantage

Arsenal are willing to wait to sign Semenyo in the summer, and if they are afforded the chance to make this move once this season is over, they could end up being frontrunners in this race.

Indeed, Antoine Semenyo is a known Arsenal fan, as he has previously told The Athletic.

If you were Andrea Berta and could sign any player in the world right now, who would it be and why?

“I am an Arsenal fan, I don’t conflict the two with my job. It is great to play against Arsenal, a team I have watched all my life and I want to play for the top clubs as well. In order for that to happen I need to prove it.”

Interestingly, Semenyo has previously also admitted he was on trial at Arsenal as a youngster.

“It starts from 16 to be honest. I had my last trial at Crystal Palace. My first trial was at 12 or 13, during those 12 to 16 years I went everywhere,” Semenyo said.

“I went to Arsenal, I went to Fulham, I went to Palace, I went to Millwall four or five times. I went to so many teams.”

We saw this summer how much being a boyhood fan can influence a player as Eberechi Eze chose Arsenal over Tottenham, and, who knows? Perhaps Semenyo could do the same here.
