Arsenal have recalled striker Mika Biereth from his loan spell at Motherwell amid links to Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.
Biereth was outstanding in the first half of this season, scoring six and assisting five times as he became a key player for his side.
Recent reports indicated that Sheffield Wednesday were interested in him to save their season, as they find themselves in the Championship relegation zone, but we suggested that Biereth was better off finishing the season North of the border.
However, he has now ended his spell at Motherwell, much to the disappointment of the Scottish Premiership side.
Motherwell express disappointment as Arsenal end Biereth loan
Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell has now shared his disappointment that Arsenal decided to terminate Biereth’s loan at his club, given how well he was playing.
“It’s a major, major disappointment,” he stated.
“This was a little bit unexpected. They believe there’s an opportunity to send him to another club that takes him that step beyond where we are just now.”
Biereth recovered from an injury early on in the season to become a key player, and started the last 11 league games in a row for Motherwell, who are currently in ninth place in the Scottish Premiership.
The next step for Mika Biereth’s development

Whilst nothing is confirmed yet, it seems that the previous links to Sheffield Wednesday may have some substance, and if Biereth moves there, he will be joining a side desperate for points in their bid to stay up.
Wednesday are currently four points away from safety, with 19 league games left in the campaign, and Biereth’s move will give him the chance to become their saviour, whilst also testing himself against top-quality opposition in Leicester City and Southampton.
Biereth’s aim should be to become a first-team regular in his spell at Wednesday, and demonstrate that he can continue his fine scoring and assisting output at this level.
The risk comes as he is leaving a club where he has already adjusted to the environment and playing style as a regular starter, to potentially move to an initial bench role, but if he succeeds at Wednesday, it will bode very well for his future.
A good spell in the Championship could attract interest from sides higher up the table or even in the Premier League, and a high-level loan or substantial sale this summer cannot be ruled out. However, if he does do well, he will hope that his good form puts him in the spotlight for a first-team chance at Arsenal.
