Arsenal are one of a number of Premier League clubs eyeing up Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.

According to TeamTalk, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham are all prepared to battle it out over the chance to secure the services of Evan Ferguson in the next summer transfer window.

It is unsurprising to see Ferguson generating such a frenzy of interest. However, the Seagulls are aware that they have a potentially very special player on their hands. As such, as per the aforementioned report, Brighton are preparing to demand a fee in excess of £100 million in exchange for the 19-year-old forward.

Outside of an extraordinary change in circumstances, there is no chance that the Gunners could afford to strike a deal for Ferguson in January. Arsenal will only have a very modest transfer budget available to them in the winter window.

From the player’s perspective, it also makes sense for him to remain with the south coast club at least until the end of the current campaign. He is getting regular game time, under an excellent manager at Brighton, and doesn’t have to deal with the pressure of leading the line for one of the biggest clubs in the country. His time at the very top will surely come, but for now, Ferguson is in the best place for his development.

Why Arsenal want Evan Ferguson

Ferguson undoubtedly has vast potential. Writing in The Athletic, all-time Premier League top scorer, Alan Shearer, has tipped the teenage sensation to become a “superstar” in the near future.

The Irish youngster looks to have everything needed to excel as a goalscorer in the modern game. He is fast, tall, powerful, and is assured and instinctive in his finishing. Despite his youth, he already has a great appreciation of space and an innate sense of when and where to run. He also seems to be coping well with the spotlight that is upon him.

Arsenal are certainly in the market for a striker. Ivan Toney has been identified as Mikel Arteta’s primary January target. Meanwhile, club legend Sol Campbell has urged the Gunners to sign Napoli marksman Victor Osimhen

The Gunners do lack an elite, prolific centre-forward. Gabriel Jesus has a great deal of quality, but is wasteful in front of goal. Eddie Nketiah is not of the standard required for a regular starting striker in a side chasing a Premier League title.

Ferguson could be the next truly great goalscorer to light up the Emirates Stadium. However, Arsenal will have to be patient and willing to beat off the competition in order to land his signature.
