Iconic former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has now insisted that Arsenal need to sign Ivan Toney.
It is no secret that Arsenal are keen to secure the services of Ivan Toney. However, the Brentford striker won’t come cheap.
According to Sky Sports, the Bees are set to demand a fee of £100 million for Toney, as they remain determined to retain the player for themselves. Arsenal would certainly have to make significant sales if they were to snap up Toney at this price.
It is easy to see why Mikel Arteta is so keen to bring Toney to the Emirates Stadium. The 27-year-old is a fine player and has proven that he can be prolific at Premier League level. Last season, the once-capped England international netted twenty times in the top flight of English football.
Jamie Carragher certainly believes that the north London club should do whatever it takes to sign Toney. Speaking on Monday Night Football, the former centre-back said that the forward is the man needed “to take Arsenal to the title. I think Arsenal might need to take that chance, if I’m being totally honest, but if they don’t fix that position and the goalkeeper I think it’s going to be very hard for them to overhaul Man City.”

Arsenal may need to look beyond Ivan Toney
Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah are currently the only out-and-out strikers in the Arsenal squad. The fact that the Brazilian is so injury-prone also heaps additional pressure on Nketiah. The Gunners could do with some additional depth in this part of the pitch, and well as extra quality.
Toney would certainly provide that additional quality. His size and physicality would also bring a new dimension to the Arsenal attack. However, £100 million is such a huge fee that it would be hard to justify such an expense. If the Bees don’t lower their demands then Arteta would be wise to pursue alternative targets.
In the meantime, if Arsenal are to stand any chance of surpassing Manchester City this season and winning the Premier League title, then they need to ensure that their attack is potent enough between now and January.
