Arsenal have been linked with Feyenoord striking sensation Santiago Gimenez, but they have now learned that they will have to pay a hefty fee to sign him.

The 22-year-old has been in excellent form for the Dutch side this season, scoring 15 times in 11 games across all competitions.

This included a brace on his Champions League debut against Lazio on Wednesday, and he is already attracting interest from all over Europe.

Feyenoord set price tag for Arsenal target Santiago Gimenez

A report from 90min has now revealed that Feyenoord believe that Gimenez is worth as much, if not more, than what Antony was worth when the winger moved to Manchester United from Ajax for £86m last year.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and a host of other clubs are tracking Gimenez, and Arsenal scouts were in attendance when he scored a hattrick against Ajax earlier this season.

Whether any of them choose to bid that much in the January window remains to be seen, although this price tag could potentially lower by the end of the season; Feyenoord may be more open to a sale once their campaign is over.

Given that Arsenal are not short of options at centre-forward, there is little need to spend £87m on the attacker in January.

However, he is a player worth monitoring going forward. He has been described as “fantastic” by former Feyenoord player Mario Been, and he looks both deadly in front of goal as well as well-rounded outside the box.

Arsenal have been linked with Ivan Toney as well, but Gimenez at 22 could be a better investment at the right price. If the Mexico international continues his incredible scoring form, then one of Europe’s major clubs could look to eventually sign him, and there is already no shortage of interest in him.
