Andrea Berta is on the verge of being unveiled as Arsenal’s new sporting director.
The Italian has been the top target for quite some time now, and reports have revealed that Arsenal will officially announce Berta in the very near future.
There is a ton of work to do for the incoming sporting director, and a lot of his focus will be on the upcoming summer transfer window.
The priority, as every Arsenal fan on the planet will tell you, is a new striker, and Berta could bring in a player from his old club, Atletico Madrid, now.
Arsenal want to sign Adrian Nino from Atletico Madrid
Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League this season are all but over because the board did not bring in a new centre-forward in January.
Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz’s season-ending injuries have left the Gunners striker-less, and Mikel Arteta has had to deploy Mikel Merino up top as a result.
Arsenal will know that they cannot afford to be in the same position next season, so reinforcements up top are an absolute necessity.
Someone like Alexander Isak or Benjamin Sesko has to be the priority, but a backup striker could help the Gunners too.
That’s probably why they are eyeing a move to sign Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Nino.
Football Transfers claim that Arsenal are keeping close tabs on the 20-year-old forward, who has impressed for Atleti’s B team this season.
The report adds that many in the Spanish capital view Nino as the future of Atletico Madrid’s attack, so it will not be easy to lure him in.
But, Berta’s connections at Atleti could potentially help Arsenal in their pursuit.
Arsenal target Adrian Nino has been compared to two La Liga icons
Nino scored 10 goals for Atletico Madrid’s B team this season, and his performances there convinced Diego Simeone to call him up to senior training sessions.
The 20-year-old even made his La Liga debut earlier this campaign, coming off the bench to play 20 minutes against Leganes in January.
Nino is a huge talent, and his ability up top has earned him comparisons to La Liga and Atletico Madrid greats Antoine Griezmann and Fernando Torres.
His ‘sharp movement, lethal finishing, and relentless pressing’ are a few of the qualities that have alerted the Premier League runners-up.
However, it remains to be seen if Atletico Madrid will be willing to let him go this summer.
