Arsenal now want to sign the only striker who dominated Cristhian Mosquera this season

Cristhian Mosquera has barely put a foot wrong since joining Arsenal.

The young Spaniard has had to fill in for both William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes at times this season, which is one of the most difficult things to do in the game today.

However, Mosquera has been brilliant more often than not, with his latest impressive display coming against Brentford on Thursday night.

The only game in which he struggled, even for a few minutes, was in the Champions League against Inter Milan.

Arsenal eye move to sign Inter Milan star Pio Esposito

Esposito is one of the most talented young strikers in Europe right now.

The 20-year-old has started just 11 games in all competitions for Inter Milan this season, and he has directly contributed to 11 goals.

Standing 6ft 3in tall, Esposito is a big physical presence at the top end of the pitch, and his brilliant ability with his back to goal makes him a nightmare to defend against.

Cristhian Mosquera learned that the hard way when Inter brought Esposito on in the 63rd minute of the game against Arsenal in January.

The Italian absolutely dominated Mosquera to the point where he forced Mikel Arteta to make a change. Gabriel was brought on to contain the Inter striker.

Goal in Italy wrote about the incident and said: “Pio Esposito – the boy has all the credentials to make it.

“A few minutes after coming on, he immediately comes close to scoring, going centimetres from the post. He wins numerous duels with Mosquera, so much so as to force Arteta to bring on Gabriel to change the marking on him.”

Gabriel fared much better against Esposito, but the 20-year-old’s cameo was enough to catch Arsenal’s eye as Football Transfers have now revealed that the Gunners are interested in signing him.

The report claims that Esposito is high on Arsenal’s shortlist as they look for a backup striker next summer. Andrea Berta is personally looking into the situation and has asked the club’s scouts in Italy to provide a detailed report on him.

Esposito signed a new contract at Inter in April last year, and that doesn’t expire until 2030. Therefore, it will not be easy to convince the Nerazzurri to part ways with him.

What Arsenal fans were saying about Pio Esposito after Inter Milan clash

Esposito impressed everyone with his performance against Arsenal in the Champions League.

It’s not often that you see a 20-year-old striker come up against one of the best defences in Europe and cause them multiple problems.

Esposito was so good that even Arsenal fans were amazed by his display.

One supporter tweeted at the time: “This Pio Esposito is insane. I’m just learning he’s 6’3, 20 years old and won the Italian Golden Boy Award. He’s clearly a top talent. His physicality, technical ability and football IQ would perfectly fit Arsenal. I seriously hope Arteta and Berta watched the Arsenal vs Inter game and added him to the shortlist.”

Another wrote: “I am in awe of Esposito, hopefully Arteta targets him!”

“Esposito is exactly the kind of striker Arsenal need. Big target man striker, a plan B who can get on the end of crosses and hold the ball up and be physical,” said another.
