Arsenal are about to enter the final week of the summer transfer window having signed just two players.

The Gunners turned David Raya’s loan into a permanent deal early in July before signing Riccardo Calafiori on a long-term contract from Bologna a few weeks later.

Arsenal are pushing to sign Mikel Merino, but it looks like the Spanish midfielder is not the only name on Mikel Arteta’s wish list right now.

Alfredo Pedulla has revealed that the Gunners want to sign a Serie A forward next.

Arsenal propose interesting offer to sign Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman has emerged as a surprise target for Arsenal in the final few days of this summer’s transfer window.

It is no secret that the Gunners could do with reinforcements in attack.

A new forward – either an out-and-out striker or a versatile player who can play across the frontline – could give the North Londoners the boost they need to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of names in recent months, but links to Lookman seem to be gaining pace.

Pedulla has revealed that the talented attacker did not show up for training at Atalanta as there is a possibility he could be on the move.

Arsenal have been credited with an interest, and it has been claimed that Edu Gaspar has ‘announced a proposal of €50 million (£42.5m) plus bonuses, with the possibility of inserting the defender Jakub Kiwior‘ into the deal.

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini is said to be a big fan of Arsenal’s Polish defender, so there’s definitely a deal to be done here.

However, the Serie A side’s current valuation of Lookman stands somewhere between €65 million and €70 million (£55m-£60m).

The report adds that Arsenal face competition from Liverpool for Lookman’s signature.

Lookman’s stats in 2023/24 explains why Arsenal want to sign him

Lookman was one of Atalanta’s best players in the 2023/24 season.

The talented winger, hailed as a player with ‘unbelievable’ quality by Scott Parker (Football London), played 45 times in all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists. That includes a stunning hat-trick in the Europa League final to help Atalanta win the competition.

That is an outstanding return, and it is no surprise at all that he is attracting so much interest from England and elsewhere.

As we said above, Arsenal could do with a new forward, and Lookman, with his ability to play across the frontline and also a number 10, offers a lot of options.

However, we just can’t see Arsenal spending over £50 million to sign him this summer.
