Arsenal have already lined up three top striker targets to pursue once a deal for Riccardo Calafiori is over the line.

Arsenal’s activity in the summer transfer window is beginning to gather pace.

As summer international tournaments, such as Euro 2024, begin to draw to a close, clubs will find it far easier to begin striking deals.

Mikel Arteta is certainly keen to bolster his squad in the transfer market. The Gunners have already secured the services of goalkeeper David Raya on a permanent basis, and have been linked with further potential acquisitions all over the pitch.

Arsenal are currently working on a deal to sign Riccardo Calafiori. The defender impressed for Italy at Euro 2024 and would certainly add quality to the North London club’s defensive contingent. As he is able to feature at left-back and in the heart of the rearguard, Calafiori would provide some much-needed cover and competition at the Emirates Stadium.

If and when Arsenal get a deal done for Calafiori, Arteta will turn his attention towards bringing in a new goalscorer.

Three strikers Arsenal will target after signing Riccardo Calafiori

The Gunners are known to be on the hunt for a new striker this summer. Arsenal already tried to sign Benjamin Sesko, but the Slovenian ace opted to pen a new deal with RB Leipzig, rather than make a move to the Premier League.

There are alternative targets on Arteta’s shortlist though. According to Caught Offside, Arsenal will consider moves for Viktor Gyokeres, Ivan Toney, and Santiago Gimenez once negotiations with Bologna over the Calafiori deal are complete.

Arsenal have already made moves towards signing Gyokeres. The Swedish forward was in prolific form for Sporting last season, racking up 43 goals and 15 assists for the Portuguese outfit.

Meanwhile, Toney has already proven that he can shine in the Premier League. The Brentford striker has also made an impact at Euro 2024 for England.

Against Slovakia he came off the bench to provide the assist for Harry Kane’s extra time winner. In the quarter-final triumph over Switzerland, he was ice-cool from the spot, helping England on their way to winning the penalty shootout. Saka admitted to being in awe of Toney’s penalty technique.

Meanwhile, Gimenez currently plies his trade for Feyenoord, and boasts vast potential. The 23-year-old Mexican has been something of a goal machine in the Dutch top flight and looks ready to make the step up to a higher level.

What Mikel Arteta needs in a striker signing this summer

Kai Havertz will begin the new season as Arsenal’s starting striker. Arteta now needs to decide what kind of forward he wants to bring in to the club to support the German.

Toney offers a similar profile to Havertz, as he is a powerful, physical presence at the top of the pitch who provides an aerial threat and can hold up the ball and bring teammates into play.

However, there is an argument that that Gunners would be wise to source a quicker striker, who can stretch opposition defences and be a clinical finisher.
