Arsenal still admire Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams ahead of a potential transfer this summer, Arsenal Insider sources understand.

It comes as the Gunners look to bolster their forward ranks over the coming transfer window, with plans to add more quality in the goal-scoring department.

Mikel Arteta is looking to add a striker to the team in the coming months, while another winger is high on Arsenal’s radar as well.

As a result, Arsenal have been linked with a move for Nico Williams, who has a release clause in the region of £50million.

The North London club aren’t alone in that interest though, with other Premier League clubs also in the mix.

What Arsenal think about Nico Williams transfer amid Premier League rival swoop

The summer opens up another opportunity for Arsenal to make a swoop for Nico Williams, with the winger seemingly more open to completing a switch.

Barcelona and Liverpool have previously been linked with the 22-year-old, but other Premier League clubs are also in the mix.

TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey confirmed that Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa are all keen on the Spain international.

When it came to Williams, he told Arsenal Insider: “Arsenal are one of the clubs being kept informed on his situation.

“They like Williams an awful lot and he ticks a lot of boxes for them. Arsenal want a striker and they want a winger as well.

“Arsenal may look at someone to play both sides, which Williams ticks the boxes for, obviously he’s a player they have liked for a while but the issue has been with him wanting to stay in Spain.

“A move to Barcelona looks very difficult for him at the moment, so if he does show that willingness to move to England, Arsenal are certainly going to be in the mix.”

What Spanish media thought of Nico Williams’ latest performance

Nico Williams made his return to action for Athletic Club in their recent 1-1 draw away at Espanyol in La Liga.

The winger had a 25-minute cameo from the bench as he steps up his recovery from a two-game absence.

In that time, he managed to land an assist for the equaliser – his fourth in the season in La Liga so far.

The local media weren’t quite as impressed though, questioning his run of form throughout the campaign so far.

El Correo said of his display: “The Navarrese player returned after two games out due to injury but did not contribute anything. We are already in February and the player who amazed the world last season is still far from that version.”

It has been a tough season for many of those players who featured in the European Championships last summer, though Williams has all of the ability and potential to improve even further.
