Arsenal star now expected to leave, ‘half the Premier League’ could be interested in deal

Arsenal are set to sell several fringe players this summer, but there has not been much movement in the market so far.

Deals are agreed for Arsenal flops Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga to join Lazio and Sevilla, but questions remain over the futures of homegrown trio Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson.

Sales of any of these homegrown players would represent pure profit in terms of PSR rules for Arsenal, and given their lack of gametime, it seems that exits are the best solution.

Nelson is one of the longest-serving players in the current squad, and he signed a new deal to remain at the club last summer. However, it now appears that he will leave.

Reiss Nelson likely to leave Arsenal this summer

Speaking exclusively to Arsenal Insider, transfer expert Graeme Bailey revealed that there is a lot of interest in Nelson, and that the winger is expected to leave the club.

“With Reiss Nelson, we do expect that he will go. There’s quite a few options out there,” Bailey explained.

“I’ve heard that probably half the Premier League in some guise quite fancy taking him, it very much depends on Arsenal’s asking price.

“They are looking for a permanent deal for him, so we’ll see how that one pans out. I don’t think he’s at the very top of anyone’s list, but I think he will get a move.”

Nelson made just one Premier League start since signing his long-term deal last summer, despite Arsenal’s interest in adding another winger to the squad.

Clubs will view him as a homegrown 24-year-old winger who can play on both sides, with Premier League experience under his belt, and the potential to explode.

Nelson has shown glimpses of sheer class at Arsenal. A substitute appearance against Nottingham Forest in October 2022 saw him score twice and provide an assist, and his best moment came when he scored a last-minute scorcher to secure a 3-2 victory over Bournemouth, having come back from two goals down.

The Englishman needs game time to fulfil his vast potential, and that will not come under Mikel Arteta. A move is now likely, and there are many clubs, including West Ham, who may feel that if given a chance, Nelson could become a real asset.
