Arsenal told Premier League striker ‘ticks so many boxes’ for Arteta, it’s not Toney

Arsenal’s search for a striker ahead of the summer transfer window has seen them linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney, among others.

However, if Mikel Arteta is insistent on adding a Premier League-proven option, there is an even better striker than the Brentford star in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Arsenal were strongly linked with a move for Isak in 2022, and it was recently reported that interest still remains from the Gunners.

The 24-year-old has been a top performer for Newcastle, and whilst it appears unlikely that they would sanction a move, financial restrictions could force their hand into a sale if a significant offer is made.

Alexander Isak would suit Arsenal superbly

Speaking on his YouTube channel, journalist Charles Watts claimed that Isak would be his ideal addition at centre-forward, and highlighted why the 24-year-old could be a success in Arsenal’s forward line alongside Gabriel Jesus.

“I don’t think Eddie’s (Nketiah) ever gonna replace Gabriel Jesus,” he stated.

“When they’re both fit, Gabriel Jesus is gonna start every single game. I think if you got Alexander Isak and they’re both fit, there’s no way that Gabriel Jesus is gonna start every game, because I think Isak is just as good, or has the potential to be just as good.

“I just think he’s a really, really fabulous player, and I think he can get so much better as well.

“I think he ticks so many boxes, when I look at him I just think ‘you work for this Arsenal team.’

“If Arsenal were to sign Alexander Isak, I think he has the potential to come in and replace Gabriel Jesus and certainly be another brilliant option at the very, very top level to share the burden with him.”

Arsenal’s interest in Isak dates back to his days at Real Sociedad, where he formed an excellent partnership with Martin Odegaard.

Isak has scored 14 times in 27 games for Newcastle this season, and he also impresses with his skill in build-up beyond his action in the box.

At 24, Isak would fit the mould of recent signings by Arteta, as a young player with room to grow, but with bags of his experience under his belt already.

The Sweden International could play alongside or instead of Jesus upfront, and would be a more skilful, and better long-term option than Toney, whose attitude raises serious question marks over his potential arrival.
