Mikel Merino to Arsenal transfer talks
Arsenal have scheduled a new round of talks with Real Sociedad over a move for midfielder Mikel Merino in the transfer window.
That’s according to the Evening Standard, which claims that discussions surrounding a deal are progressing and there are hopes that an agreement can be reached.
The 28-year-old missed Real Sociedad’s opening match of the new La Liga campaign, where his side fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Rayo Vallecano.
Talks over a move have been ongoing over the past month or so, though the progress has slowed as of late.
With just over two weeks remaining in the transfer window, Mikel Arteta will be hopeful that a deal can be sealed for Merino.
Thomas Partey exit update
Amid plenty of talks surrounding a huge midfield overhaul at the Emirates Stadium this summer, there have been some suggestions surrounding potential exits.
Jorginho is entering the final year of his contract, with uncertainty surrounding where his future may lie in the near future.
Then there is Thomas Partey, who is also in the final 12 months of his deal and is also uncertain of his stay with the Gunners.
The Ghanaian international has been a key player since his switch from Atletico Madrid, though injuries have often plagued his campaigns.
With the end of his contract in sight, along with further reinforcements, doubt has crept in over Partey’s place in the squad.
However, it does appear as though he will stay for the foreseeable future as journalist Charles Watts told CaughtOffside: “I don’t really see Partey moving on now.
“Arsenal have been open to him leaving for each of the past two summers, but they have not received any offers that have been deemed suitable.
“There has been interest from Saudi Arabia, but it’s never materialised into anything concrete.”
It means that, with just two weeks remaining of the transfer window, a move appears unlikely for the midfielder.
Ivan Toney transfer price tag
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney over the summer transfer window, with Mikel Arteta eyeing a new centre-forward option.
The England international missed his side’s opening clash of the season, with Thomas Frank hinting at a potential exit.
Saudi Arabia has been touted as a possible destination, though there is still a chance he could move to Arsenal.
According to The Sun, The Bees are willing to drop their transfer price tag down to £45million for this summer.
The Arsenal transfer target had been valued at roughly £70million earlier in the window, though he only has one year left on his deal.
London rivals Chelsea are also claimed to be showing interest in Toney before the end of the market.
