Arsenal’s academy has produced some incredible talents in recent years.
Bukayo Saka has become one of the best players in the world, Myles Lewis-Skelly played a major role in a title-winning campaign and Max Dowman looks destined for a huge future at the Emirates Stadium.
However, the pathway to the first team is not easy, especially at a club competing for the biggest trophies in football.
That reality appears to have convinced one highly-rated youngster that his future lies away from Arsenal.
Arsenal fans…who is Arsenal’s BEST EVER academy graduate and why?
Alexei Rojas Fedorushchenko has decided to leave Arsenal
Less than a year ago, Rojas appeared to be moving in the right direction.
The goalkeeper revealed that he had been promoted to train with Arteta’s first-team squad, and there was genuine excitement about what the future could hold.
As a young goalkeeper, that was a significant step forward.
Breaking into Arsenal’s senior setup is difficult enough for outfield players, but it is often even harder for goalkeepers because opportunities are so limited.
Despite his progress behind the scenes, a first-team appearance never arrived.

With David Raya firmly established as Arsenal’s number one and other goalkeepers ahead of him in the pecking order, Rojas has found himself in a difficult position.
That has ultimately influenced his decision over a new contract.
According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, the 20-year-old has chosen not to extend his stay in north London.
Sierra wrote on X: “Alexei Rojas Fedorushchenko will not continue at Arsenal, as there was no agreement on renewal since the Colombia international goalkeeper is seeking more minutes.
“He will become a free agent starting July 1.”
Who is the one Arsenal academy player you thought would become a superstar but never did?
Alexei Rojas’ Arsenal exit makes perfect sense for everyone
Goalkeepers need games more than almost any other position.
Sitting on the bench for years may help development to a point, but eventually, players need regular minutes to continue improving.
At Arsenal, that opportunity simply was not there for Rojas.
With Raya established as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe and the club competing for major honours every season, breaking into the side would have been extremely difficult.
That is why a move elsewhere makes sense for the young goalkeeper, even if it means leaving the club he has called home for years.
Arsenal lose a talented academy player, but Rojas now has the chance to build a career as a first-choice goalkeeper rather than waiting indefinitely for an opportunity that may never come.
