Arsenal made a £105m bid to sign Julian Alvarez before Viktor Gyokeres

It is no secret that Arsenal are big fans of Julian Alvarez.

The Gunners were among the clubs linked with a move to sign him when he was at Manchester City, and they have been in the rumours constantly since.

Multiple reports have claimed that Arsenal want to sign Alvarez at the end of this season, which would be an incredible move.

However, the original plan was to get him last year.

Journalist Ruben Uria has revealed in a video on his YouTube channel that Arsenal tabled a mammoth initial bid of €100 million plus another €20 million in add-ons, taking the overall figure to €120 million, which is just under £105 million.

Uria said: “Arsenal made Atletico de Madrid an offer of €100 million plus €20 million in bonuses for Julian Alvarez during the Club World Cup.

“The club said no, stating that Julian Alvarez was not for sale.”

Arsenal remain interested in the player, and as of February 16th, Julian Alvarez doesn’t want to go to the English team or return to the Premier League.”

Arsenal’s interest in Julian Alvarez has forced Atletico Madrid into action

Atletico Madrid are well aware of interest from Arsenal, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in Alvarez going into the summer.

To avoid any problem once the transfer window opens, the Rojiblancos have begun contract talks.

Uria further claimed in his video, as relayed by Estadio Deportivo, that Atleti have made an opening offer to Alvarez to extend his contract.

The Argentine’s current deal does not expire until 2030, so there is no urgent need there, but a financial incentive could stop his head from turning.

If Alvarez accepts a new deal, Mikel Arteta’s dream of signing him this summer will be all but over.
