Leon Goretzka was one of the players linked with a move to Arsenal on deadline day but all might not be over when it comes to the German midfielder.
As Arsenal scrambled to potentially sign a midfielder on deadline day, Goretzka was a name mentioned for the Gunners.
With the summer window to come in 2026, Arsenal are expected to make yet more moves in the market and a midfielder is on their agenda. Indeed, it seems Goretzka is very much one to consider.
🔮 Which stage of the Champions League will Arsenal reach?
Arsenal have already approached Leon Goretzka
It’s interesting to see Mikel Arteta be so keen to sign a new midfielder given the options he already has at his disposal.
Of course, with a player like Goretzka, he’d be getting the experience and knowhow of a seasoned international footballer, rather than someone to develop.
Indeed, according to BILD journalist Christian Falk, Arsenal have already made their move.
“I wouldn’t make too much of this Inter rumour for now. I still believe that England will be his first choice. Arsenal have already made an approach, Atlético Madrid as well, Tottenham too, and from what I’m hearing out of the dressing room, the Premier League would really appeal to him,” Falk revealed.

“That said, I’ve also just heard recently, after this rumour, that Italy could genuinely be a very, very realistic option. That surprised me a bit as well. And Inter aren’t the only club involved either. Juventus have apparently already sounded things out, and AC Milan too. Most likely Inter and Milan don’t want to let a player go to the other on the market.
“Goretzka in Italy — and you have to say, in Italy a player around 30 isn’t considered as old as he might be in another league — so I could definitely imagine it. Yes, of course there are various factors to consider.”
Could Leon Goretzka be a new Jorginho for Arsenal?
While there is a mix of youth and experience in this current Arsenal team, a lot of Arteta’s side are the right side of 30 and have plenty more in the tank.
For Leon Goretzka, he is already into his 30s and he knows that this might be the last window where he gets a realistic chance of signing for a top English club.
That takes us to the example of Jorginho, who Mikel Arteta signed to bring much-needed balance and experience to his squad at that particular time.
Which current Arsenal player has the best chance of becoming an elite manager in the future?
Like Jorginho, Goretzka is a known winner and he’d bring that knowhow to a squad that, come the summer anyway, will hopefully have tasted success.
Arsenal’s key if they do win the league is to keep momentum and keep on progressing. That means Arteta making big decisions and making new signings.
Goretzka, then, makes a lot of sense.
