Arsenal are interested in signing Leroy Sane on a free transfer, although sources in Germany expect the player to stay at Bayern Munich, Arsenal Insider understands.
Sane’s contract expires in the summer, and he has somewhat fallen in the pecking order at the Allianz Arena, with Michael Olise deemed the Bundesliga club’s star winger.
Starting just 13 league games all campaign, the German is more on the periphery of Vincent Kompany’s squad than he ever has been, and may be attracted by the prospect of a new challenge away from Bavaria.
Several clubs are understood to be lining up to pick the former Manchester City man up on a free transfer, including Arsenal.

Arsenal are interested in signing Leroy Sane
Joining Bayern from Manchester City in 2020, Sane has made over 200 appearances for the German giants, scoring 59 goals in the process.
Enjoying an impressive spell at the top level for almost ten seasons now, there was a time when Sane would’ve been viewed as extremely hot property on the market.
However, some Arsenal fans are keen not to repeat the Raheem Sterling mistake, and sign an ageing former City winger on a short-term deal.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Sane could be available for no transfer fee in just a few months time, and this is inevitably attracting suitors.
Arsenal Insider have been told that Arsenal’s interest is genuine, with Mikel Arteta keen on reuniting with a player who he helped develop at the Etihad.
Having said that, Bayern players often find themselves in a contract stand-off with their club and generally tend to remain in Southern Germany.
The likes of Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies have been in this position in the last 12 months, and both players have ultimately committed their futures to the Munich outfit.
Reports have circulated suggesting that Sane remains in talks with Bayern over a contract renewal, and sources in Germany expect a fresh deal to materialise, ultimately making Arsenal and other potential suitors’ interest redundant.

Leroy Sane would be a smart pick-up for Arsenal
While there are parallels to the Sterling situation, Sane has a lot more to offer at the top level still than his English counerpart.
Contributing to 15 goals in the Bundesliga this campaign, the 29-year-old is a year younger than Sterling and excels in a number of areas statistically.
Still a competent dribbler, Sane is a goal threat and contributes creatively to Bayern.
| Sane’s Bundesliga statistics 2024/25 | |
| Appearances | 23 |
| Goals | 9 |
| Assists | 4 |
| Shots per 90 | 3.45 |
| Expected Goals per 90 | 0.58 |
| Key Passes per 90 | 1.91 |
| Expected Assists per 90 | 0.34 |
| Successful Take-ons per 90 | 1.91 |
Signing him on a free transfer and allowing Arsenal to allocate the bulk of their resources to acquiring Alexander Isak for a substantial fee would be good business.
On a short-term deal, Sane can cover both wings and has the ability to replace Gabriel Martinelli for a year or two.
Down the line, the Gunners can invest in a top-level younger winger, after having enjoyed a couple of seasons of Sane and Isak in their front-line.
