Arteta eyes action as Arsenal face losing in-form favourite after recent agent claim

Arsenal star Jorginho now faces an uncertain future at the Emirates Stadium following recent comments from his agent. 

Jorginho may not have a long-term future at Arsenal.

As things stand, the midfield veteran is set to become a free agent at the end of this season. The Gunners do hold an option to extend his current deal by a further year, but as yet, this clause has not been triggered.

There have been calls for Arsenal to keep Jorginho beyond the end of the current campaign. The 32-year-old has been in exceptional form in recent weeks, and has shown that he still has plenty of offer at the highest level. The former Chelsea man brings so much and experience and composure to the middle of the park. Even many Chelsea fans have now admitted it was a mistake for them to let Jorginho join Arsenal in the first place. 

Mikel Arteta is also a huge admirer of the player. The Spanish coach has previously named Jorginho as one of the most intelligent players he has ever worked with. 

However, despite these factors, there is still no clear consensus on what the future holds for the 50-cap Italy international. Jorginho’s agent recently made comments which suggest that a return to Serie A may well be on the cards for his client this summer. 

Arsenal keen to put Jorginho plan into action amid exit talk

As reported by The Standard, Juventus, Lazio, and Napoli are all keen on securing his signature, whilst Arteta is keen to keep Jorginho in north London, and Arsenal are preparing to open new contract talks with the player. 

It does seem that, for whatever reason, the Gunners do not consider triggering Jorginho’s extension clause to be a viable option, and would rather discuss fresh terms instead.

In any case, it would be good news for Arsenal if they were able to reach an agreement to keep Jorginho at the club. Whatever his future may hold beyond this season though, he certainly still has a vital role to play in what remains of the current campaign.

He has shown that he can be an excellent partner for Declan Rice in the middle of the park, and Arteta clearly trusts Jorginho in big games, as he has started in wins against both Manchester City and Liverpool this season. There are plenty of big games to come for Arsenal still this season, when the manager will surely turn to Jorginho to help give the Gunners control and stability.
