Arsenal face the toughest transfer window arguably since the Premier League began. Mistakes like signing Willian simply cannot be repeated, despite the Brazilian hitting some form at the end of this season.
The 32-year-old has scored just one goal and has provided seven assists in all competitions this term. He is many people’s top contender to be the biggest flop of the season, and sadly, we can’t really argue against that.
Arsenal signed him on a three-year deal last year and that made many fans fear that there’s no way he would leave this summer. However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed some incredible news today on Twitter.
If Edu can pull this off, it would be one of his best moves as our technical director. Yes, he’s mostly judged on the players he brings in, but the Brazilian has already shown that he is more than capable of getting rid of people as well.
Mesut Ozil, Sokratis Papasathopoulos and Shkodran Mustafi were all released in January. It did cost us a bit of money, but they had to leave and Edu managed to get the job done even when many felt it was impossible.
Getting rid of Willian by getting a transfer fee could well be one of Edu’s most shrewd moves ever. It is still unlikely at this point, but the intent to let him leave is there, and that is clearly a step in the right direction.

Arsenal fans are absolutely delighted with the news.
