Cesc Fabregas surprised Arsenal didn’t activate buy-back clause in 2014
Speaking on Rory Jennings’ YouTube channel, Fabregas has explained that he was surprised Arsenal decided against activating their buy-back clause on him during the summer of 2014.
“It’s true that at the beginning my thought once I decide to leave Barcelona and I want to go back to the Premier League,” the 39-year-old stated.
“My first thought is I’m going back to Arsenal because Arsenal had a buyback clause, you know, with that was lasting I think it was two weeks by the time we tell them I’m leaving Barcelona.
“They had two weeks to kind of activate the clause. Obviously, they were aware of it… they didn’t take it.
“And even though I was a little bit surprised, I had to look after myself.”

The Gunners instead spent £100m on Alexis Sanchez, Callum Chambers, Danny Welbeck, Mathieu Debuchy, Gabriel Paulista, David Ospina and Krystian Bielik.
