David Ornstein claims Arsenal are set to sign ‘highly-rated prospect’ in Arteta problem position

Arsenal have now reached an agreement to sign a player in a position that has caused a problem for Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal have issues to address in a number of positions in this summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta is known to want a striker, and Riccardo Calafiori could come in to boost the Gunners’ defensive contingent.

Arsenal have also made signing a midfielder a priority, whilst there are still issues for the North London club to resolve between the sticks.

Having lost his starting berth, Aaron Ramsdale may well leave the Emirates Stadium this summer. At this stage in his career, the England star needs to be playing regular football, and that is not going to happen at Arsenal now that David Raya’s move to the club has been made permanent. Southampton have now entered the race to sign Ramsdale

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Dan Bentley. The Wolves man could come in and offer Arteta extra depth in the goalkeeper department.

However, the Gunners now look to be on the verge of making another acquisition in that position.

Arsenal set to sign Ajax gem Tommy Setford with contract details revealed

Transfer expert David Ornstein, reporting on X, has now claimed that: “Arsenal strike agreement with Ajax to sign goalkeeper Tommy Setford. Fee for 18yo Ajax talent & England youth international around €1m + add-ons. Highly-rated prospect expected to join on initial 4yr contract to bolster [Arsenal’s] ranks.”

Who is Tommy Setford?

The 18-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for Ajax, but has featured for England at under-20 level. Whilst he would almost certainly go straight into the Hale End academy system at Arsenal, there is a chance that the teenager could serve as the third choice option in the senior squad if Karl Hein, who fulfilled that role last season, is granted a loan move away from the club.

Setford is certainly a huge talent, and the long-term deal that he has been offered by Arsenal certainly suggests that Arteta has high hopes for the youngster.

He certainly won’t serve as Ramsdale’s replacement, should the 26-year-old move on, but he could have an important role to play at the club in the future and will be hoping to be involved in the pre-season tour of the USA.
