David Ornstein has issued a worrying transfer update regarding Pedro Neto, a player Arsenal have been strongly linked to in recent weeks.

The Portuguese international has been in sensational form this season for Gary O’Neil’s side, with Neto bagging 11 assists in all competitions as well as scoring three goals.

Recently valued as highly as £80m, Neto was shaping up to be Arsenal’s main wide-attacking target heading into the summer, with the Gunners long-term admirers of the Wolves winger.

Yet speaking to NBC Sports, journalist Ornstein revealed that there is a chance that Neto could stay at Wolves, even with a club as big as Arsenal chasing the 23-year-old forward.

Indeed, Neto opting to stay at Wolves would be a surprise given how strongly the winger has been linked with a major Premier League move, yet the Arsenal target could now do just that.

Ornstein said when asked about Neto’s future at Wolves heading into the summer transfer window: “We could be talking about a move this summer, but that’s not for certain.

“Firstly, because he’s under contract until 2027 by virtue of the deal he signed in 2022. Secondly, he’s not unhappy at Wolves, there’s no sign of agitating for a move and therefore it’s not certain to happen.”

Arsenal under Mikel Arteta are known for sticking it out for transfer targets if the Gunners boss thinks the deal is worth chasing, with David Raya the most recent example.

And given how long Neto has been linked with a move to north London, there’s every chance the Basque coach has a similar plan in mind for the Portuguese international.

However, after this update, Arsenal fans will hope the club have a backup option in mind should Neto decide to stay at Wolves, with a new wide-attacker something the Gunners need for next season if they’re to compete.
