Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the future of Arsenal transfer target Pedro Neto.

Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Pedro Neto for some time.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers winger has been in superb form so far this season, racking up 3 goals and 11 assists in just 19 appearances, across all competitions. The Portuguese ace has caught the eye with his flair, pace, and creativity. Neto will also be hoping that the recurrent injury issues that have hampered his progress in recent seasons are now all behind him too.

Neto has been described as being “perfect” for Arsenal, as he can offer a natural back up option for Bukayo Saka, and also compete for minutes with Gabriel Martinelli on the opposite flank. Mikel Arteta is also known to be an admirer of the 23-year-old.

However, Wolves’ own stance on the player could prove a stumbling block. As things stand, Wolves are not willing to engage in talks with Arsenal over a deal for the £60 million-rated attacker

Even if the Midlands outfit were happy to sell, the Gunners would still have to contend with competition for his signature. Both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur also seem keen on the 5-cap Portugal international.

What next for Pedro Neto?

Fabrizio Romano, writing in his Daily Briefing, has now provided a fresh update on the situation. He said, “keep an eye on Pedro Neto for the summer – in the last few days Wolves manager Gary O’Neil discussed the possibility of Neto staying in the summer, but from what I understand, it is very likely that we’ll see Neto leaving in the summer transfer window.”

“There will be important clubs in for Neto, and his agent is already in contact with some clubs. I can’t mention the specific clubs who’ve been spoken to yet, but for sure Arsenal and Tottenham have appreciated the player for a long time, while Liverpool also appreciated him a few months ago though we’ll now have to see what happens with them under a new director.”

For now, Neto just needs to focus on maintaining his current impressive form, and remaining fit, for the rest of the season. He is a talismanic figure at Molineux, and is vital to Wolves’ hopes of pushing for a European qualification spot. In the meantime, the Gunners shall continue to monitor his progress.

Without a player like Neto available to Arteta, it is vital that Saka is able to remain fit and in form. Not only is the Hale End academy graduate an elite level player, but there is also not another left-footed right-winger in the Gunners’ squad who can replicate the 22-year-old’s tactical function. Reiss Nelson has replaced Saka from the bench regularly this season, but he is clearly not a player who Arteta has a great deal of faith in, as he is yet to start a single Premier League game in the current campaign.
