Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa in January, but David Ornstein has some bad news for Gunners fans.
Mikel Arteta‘s side dropped down to second in the Premier League table after the defeat at Villa Park on Saturday. It is clear that reinforcements will help us become better, and midfield is seen as an area of priority. Arsenal like Luiz, but Ornstein says this move won’t happen next month.

David Ornstein says there’s no chance Douglas Luiz joins Arsenal in January
It is no secret at this point that Arsenal are admirers of Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.
We tried to sign the Brazil international on deadline day in last summer’s transfer window, and there was interest in him in January this year as well.
Villa, however, have always managed to keep hold of their star midfielder, and if David Ornstein is to be believed, they are prepared to do the same thing again.
The journalist further claimed that people he has spoken to at Arsenal have also refuted claims that Luiz is our top target in January.
Ornstein said on The Athletic’s podcast: “There is always speculation on Douglas Luiz. He signed a new contract, of course, when Arsenal were trying to sign him last January.
“It has been described to me as no chance for Arsenal to get him this January. Also, people who I’ve spoken to of the Arsenal persuasion dispute that they’re going for him or that he is the profile that everyone inside the club wants.
“I think, especially with how Villa are doing, I would expect him to definitely stay for the time being.”

Arsenal have other targets in midfield
Douglas Luiz was described as Arsenal’s priority target for the January transfer window, but the Brazilian isn’t the only one on our wish list.
The Gunners have been linked with plenty of other midfielders recently, including one from a Premier League club – Fulham star Joao Palhinha.
Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana has also been linked, as has former Wolves star Ruben Neves. Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi has been a target for Arsenal for a long, long time. Young Arthur Vermeeren could also be an option in January.
If Arsenal can’t get the £60 million-rated Luiz, there are many others we could make a move for next month.
