The Athletic revealed yesterday that Arsenal have opened talks with Sheffield United to sign Aaron Ramsdale ahead of previously-linked Andre Onana.
The Gunners are on the market looking for a new goalkeeper. Bernd Leno’s future is up in the air, and even if the German decides to stay at the Emirates, we will need to bring in a top-quality keeper who will compete with him, just like Emi Martinez did in his final year with us.
Arsenal have been linked with a number of goalkeepers already, but interest in Ramsdale is surprising.

The Blades star is still only 23, is home grown and has had his good moments in the Premier League with Bournemouth and Sheffield United. However, he’s really not on the level required to compete or take over from Leno at Arsenal.
Only two players made more errors leading to goal in the Premier League last season than Ramsdale. The Englishman, labelled as ‘fearless’ by Alan Shearer, is a decent keeper, but Arsenal should really be looking at someone much better.
Why Ramsdale when Arsenal can sign Onana?
Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for the Ajax star and a deal almost looked imminent at one point. Onana is banned from football until November and he will miss the first 13 games of the season if we sign him.

However, he will surely be available for less than half of what the Blades will demand for Ramsdale, and almost everyone can agree that he is on a different level when compared to the Englishman.

Arsenal fans are baffled as to why Edu would prefer a more expensive yet inferior goalkeeper in Ramsdale over someone like Onana has has proven himself at the top level already.
