Arsenal could risk a deal for Eddie Nketiah falling through amid uncertainty surrounding the striker’s future at the club.

Nketiah, 25, has yet to make an appearance for the Gunners this season as Mikel Arteta relies on other forwards in his squad.

The Hale End academy graduate was an unused substitute in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday, with doubts continuing over his future.

That is despite some of the quality Nketiah has shown over the past year, with a quick start to last season earning him a place in the England international setup.

However, with just nine starts in the Premier League in the previous campaign, there is clear doubt over his long-term place at Arsenal.

“At the moment, Eddie is our player,” Mikel Arteta told the media after the victory against Aston Villa.

“He’s very committed to us. Regardless of the noise, he’s here and he wants to be here with us. He’s really happy that we won the game.”

Despite that, Nketiah continues to be linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, though that may be at risk.

Nottingham Forest bid for Santiago Gimenez may threaten Eddie Nketiah transfer

So with Nketiah linked as a potential striker option for Nottingham Forest, it may come as a blow to the 25-year-old that another forward is also on the East Midland outfit’s radar.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Forest have made an opening bid for Feyenoord and Mexico striker Santiago Gimenez.

It is claimed that a bid worth roughly £28million has been made for the 23-year-old, which would be a club-record sale for his club.

It remains to be seen whether that would rule Nottingham Forest out of the race to sign Nketiah before the end of the transfer window.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth claims that both Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have been unable to find an agreement so far for the striker, leading to a change in approach for the Reds.

David Ornstein update on Eddie Nketiah

Prior to the update on Fabrizio Romano, it appeared as though the move for Nketiah to join Nottingham Forest was moving along well.

Fellow transfer journalist David Ornstein gave an update to NBC Sports before the Liverpool match against Brentford, claiming the deal for the Arsenal striker was progressing.

“Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal is a player who Nottingham Forest are trying to sign, it is close but it’s not done yet.

“I don’t think it has any relation to the Gabriel Jesus slight injury situation.”

It suggests that on the Arsenal side, there are no issues with allowing Nketiah to make the move to the City Ground this summer.

However, it remains to be seen if Nottingham Forest’s interest in Gimenez will change the trajectory of that deal.
