Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has shared an update on Eddie Nketiah’s transfer status ahead of deadline day.

Before deadline day, the Gunners are in action against Aston Villa, with a significant battle to overcome in the Midlands.

Last season, Unai Emery’s side did the double over Arsenal, with plenty to amend ahead of the trip to Villa Park.

On Friday morning, Arteta faced the media to comment on the Saturday evening blockbuster however, attention immediately steered away from the action.

Mikel Arteta shares Arsenal transfer update on Eddie Nketiah

Straight out of the blocks, journalists quizzed the manager on Arsenal’s plans for the remainder of the transfer window, with Mikel Merino and Eddie Nketiah mentioned.

Nketiah has been linked to Nottingham Forest, with a move possibly on the cards for the Englishman this summer.

When asked about the striker’s transfer status, Arteta shared a brief update with a subtle hint that his exit could be sanctioned.

“I expect Eddie to train with us today. To be prepared for tomorrow. Whatever happens will happen if it’s good for everybody.”

It was an interesting answer from the boss, who prefers to keep Arsenal’s transfer business far from the spotlight.

Arteta didn’t rule out a move for Nketiah, who has generated sufficient interest throughout the summer transfer window.

Nketiah and Arsenal’s focus is on Aston Villa

While transfer deadline day is just a week away, Arteta’s firm focus will be on the magnificent challenge ahead at Villa Park.

It would be a travesty for the Gunners to drop points so early in the season, considering the focus that has been put into pre-season work, with a firm eye on the title.

Like Arsenal, Villa started their campaign with a win, beating West Ham away from home to defy the odds against Julen Lopetegui’s new-look team.

Nketiah is expected to be in the squad to travel to Birmingham, as per Arteta’s admission, with the striker and his teammates focused on training and Saturday’s highly-anticipated fixture.
